FINALLY in Africa. Got in early morning and no problems with security--all is well with vaccination and visa stuff. Found an ATM (took a bit to figure it out) and a SIM card, then took a minute to figure out where Uber picked up (this is a really small airport, but not well labelled!). Got to the Airbnb with no problems, but since it wouldn't be ready for check in for about three more hours, we walked to a nearby cafe called the Geco Cafe--a cool little place with furniture made from bicycles and lots of guitars and other instruments hanging from the walls. We had some coffee drinks and I had some breakfast (fried eggs and bacon)...then we walked up and down a large hill to a nearby shopping center to get some groceries.

There are security gates in the parking lots, and they check your bags when you walk in--seems severe for a grocery store. Still doesn't feel like I'm in Africa yet! The weather is nice--a bit cool, but for someone from Atlanta it felt great. The security people at our building asked us if we were cold (they were all in sweaters and jackets) and we were like "no, it feels great!"

I slept hard for a couple of hours (asked Karrie to wake me up after two hours, no matter what), then we ordered some UberEats food--I had a sweet sesame chicken wrap--and enjoyed the view of the city from our balcony. Took a shower and went back to bed--up at 5 am tomorrow for our first game drive through Nairobi National Park!
